The Catholic Church takes seriously all allegations of
sexual abuse by its clergy.

Anyone wishing to report any allegation of sexual misconduct by any clergy or diocesan employee should contact the local authority, i.e. police or sheriff’s department, and also Rick Medeiros, the Chancellor/Victims Assistance Coordinator of the Diocese. Survivors may contact our Survivor Advocacy Office below.

When the diocese receives an allegation that a priest or deacon is sexually abusing a child:

1. Law enforcement is notified and the diocese cooperates fully with any investigation that ensues.
2. The diocese places the priest or deacon on a temporary suspension of all ministry.
3. The diocese initiates an investigation and communicates with the parish and others regarding the suspension of ministry of the accused clergy man.
4. An independent private investigator conducts an investigation and reports findings to the bishop and the Diocesan Review Board.
5. The Diocesan Review Board reviews the report and provides a recommendation to the bishop.
6. Upon review of the DRB recommendation, the bishop determines if the allegation is substantiated or not.
7. If the allegation cannot be substantiated, the clergy man can return to active ministry.
8. If the allegation is substantiated, the priest or deacon is permanently removed from active ministry immediately.
